Privacy Policy

How we handle your information.

Helm Marine Tech LLC, operating as Helm Marine Survey, respects your privacy. This policy explains what we collect when you visit helmmarinesurvey.com or book a survey, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Effective June 7, 2026

By using the Site or contacting us to inquire about or book a marine survey, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site or contact us.

Who we are.

Helm Marine Survey is operated by Helm Marine Tech LLC, a Connecticut limited liability company based in Branford, Connecticut. We provide pre-purchase marine surveys, insurance surveys, and related inspection services, primarily for boat buyers and owners across Connecticut and Long Island Sound.

For privacy-related questions or requests, you can reach us at:

Information we collect.

Information you provide directly.

When you request a survey or contact us, we collect the information you choose to share. Depending on how you reach us, this may include:

  • Your name, as entered on the booking form or shared in conversation.
  • Your email address, used to send your booking confirmation and the survey report.
  • Your phone number, used to reach you about the appointment.
  • Vessel and survey details, including the boat's make, model, year, length, the marina or location where it is kept, the type of survey requested, and your preferred date.
  • Anything else you tell us about the boat, the transaction, your lender or insurer, or the purpose of the survey.

Survey work product.

In the course of performing a survey, we generate photographs, measurements, notes, and a written Marine Survey Report describing the vessel and its condition. This work product references your name and the vessel and is retained as part of our professional records.

Payment information.

We do not collect or store payment-card information on this Site. Booking your survey does not require a card. Any invoicing for completed surveys is handled separately through standard business channels; we receive only the limited confirmation details needed to record that an invoice has been paid.

Information collected automatically.

When you visit the Site, our analytics provider automatically collects limited information about your device and browsing activity, including browser type and version, device type and operating system, pages visited, time spent on pages and referring URL, approximate geographic location (derived from IP address), and date and time of your visit.

Analytics provider.

We use Vercel Analytics, a privacy-focused analytics service provided by Vercel Inc. that collects aggregate usage data without cookies and without identifying individual visitors.

How we use your information.

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To respond to your inquiry and communicate with you about a potential or scheduled survey.
  • To schedule and coordinate the survey appointment, including with the seller, broker, marina, or yard where the vessel is located.
  • To prepare and deliver your Marine Survey Report and answer questions about it.
  • To send your report to your marine lender, insurer, or other party at your request.
  • To maintain the professional records that the surveying profession and our accreditations require us to keep.
  • To invoice for completed work and reconcile payments.
  • To improve the Site and understand how visitors use it.
  • To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.
  • To protect the security and integrity of the Site and our business.

How we share your information.

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it only in the limited circumstances described below:

Service providers.

We share information with third-party service providers who help us operate our business. These currently include:

  • Email delivery provider. Sends your booking confirmation and the emails carrying your survey report and follow-up correspondence.
  • Hosting and analytics. Provided by Vercel — privacy-focused, no cookies, no individual tracking.
  • Mapping and address autocomplete. The boat-location field on our booking form uses Google Places to help you enter a marina or address; the partial text you type is sent to Google to return suggestions.

These providers are authorized to use your information only as necessary to provide services to us and are expected to protect it under their own terms and privacy policies.

People involved in your survey.

To carry out the survey, we may need to coordinate with the seller, listing broker, marina, boatyard, or transport operator where the vessel is located. We share only the information needed to schedule and complete the inspection — typically the vessel and the appointment, not your personal details — unless you ask us to introduce you directly.

Lenders, insurers, and parties you designate.

If you ask us to send your Marine Survey Report to your marine lender, insurer, broker, attorney, or another party, we will do so. We do not send your report to any third party without your request or direction.

Legal and safety reasons.

We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to comply with a legal obligation, respond to a lawful request from authorities, protect our rights or property, prevent fraud or illegal activity, or protect the safety of any person.

Business transfers.

If Helm Marine Tech LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, sale of assets, or other business transition, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will take reasonable steps to ensure your information continues to be protected.

Cookies and tracking.

Our Site uses only essential cookies needed for the Site to function properly. Our analytics provider, Vercel Analytics, does not use cookies. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies. Note that blocking certain cookies may affect how the Site functions.

How long we keep your information.

We retain client contact information and survey records for as long as needed to provide our services, support our clients after delivery, maintain the professional and business records the surveying profession requires us to keep, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

As a general matter, completed Marine Survey Reports and their supporting work product are retained for at least seven years from the date of inspection, in line with marine industry practice and accreditation standards. You may ask us to delete information that is not subject to those retention obligations at any time using the process in the "Your privacy rights" section below.

How we protect your information.

We take reasonable steps to protect the information we collect, including limiting access to authorized personnel and using service providers that maintain appropriate security practices. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

If you believe your information has been compromised through our Site, please contact us immediately at hello@helmmarinesurvey.com.

If you live in another U.S. state with a comprehensive privacy law (such as California, Colorado, Virginia, or New York), you may have similar rights under your state's law. We honor these rights to the extent they apply to us.

If we deny your request, you have the right to appeal by replying to our response. If we deny your appeal, you may contact the Connecticut Attorney General's office.

Children's privacy.

Our Site and services are not directed to children under 13 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at hello@helmmarinesurvey.com and we will delete it.

Do Not Track.

Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" signal. There is no industry standard for how to respond to these signals, and our Site does not currently respond to them.

Third-party links.

Our Site may contain links to third-party websites that we do not control — including, for example, our Google Business Profile. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those sites. We encourage you to read the privacy policies of any third-party site you visit.

Changes to this policy.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Effective Date" at the top. If we make material changes, we will take reasonable steps to notify you, such as by posting a notice on the Site.
